Lyrica is an anti-epileptic drug, also called an anticonvulsant. It works by slowing down impulses in the brain that cause seizures. Lyrica also affects chemicals in the brain that send pain signals across the nervous system. Lyrica is used to control seizures and to treat fibromyalgia.

Common Uses:
Lyrica is an anticonvulsant and neuropathic pain agent. How Lyrica works is not fully understood. It is thought to bind to certain areas in the brain that help reduce seizures, nerve pain, and anxiety. It is used for treating fibromyalgia or nerve pain caused by certain conditions (eg, shingles, diabetic nerve problems). It is also used in combination with other medicines to treat certain types of seizures. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.

How to use:
Use Lyrica as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions. An extra patient leaflet is available with Lyrica. Talk to your pharmacist if you have questions about this information. Take Lyrica by mouth with or without food. Take Lyrica on a regular schedule to get the most benefit from it. Taking Lyrica at the same time each day will help you remember to take it.

Warning and Precautions:
Lyrica may cause drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, or lightheadedness. These effects may be worse if you take it with alcohol or certain medicines. Use Lyrica with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to it.
Do not drink alcohol or use medicines that may cause drowsiness (eg, sleep aids, muscle relaxers) while you are using Lyrica ; it may add to their effects. Ask your pharmacist if you have questions about which medicines may cause drowsiness.
Lyrica may reduce the number of clot-forming cells (platelets) in your blood. Avoid activities that may cause bruising or injury. Tell your doctor if you have unusual bruising or bleeding. Tell your doctor if you have dark, tarry, or bloody stools.
Tell your doctor or dentist that you take Lyrica before you receive any medical or dental care, emergency care, or surgery.
If you are planning to father a child, talk to your doctor about the benefits and risks of fathering a child while taking Lyrica.
Lab tests, including blood counts, creatine kinase levels, or heart function, may be performed while you use Lyrica. These tests may be used to monitor your condition or check for side effects. Be sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments.

Important safety information:
If you become pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Lyrica while you are pregnant. It is not known if Lyrica is found in breast milk. Do not breast-feed while taking Lyrica.

Side Effects:
Any of the medicine can cause side effects. If the side effects occur seek medical attention or consult with your doctor for more information. Anyway such common side effects may bother you:  blurred vision, changes in sexual function, constipation, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, gas, headache, lightheadedness, stomach pain, trouble concentrating, weight gain. Seek medical attention if any of these side effects occur: chest pain, allergic reactions, difficulty swallowing or breathing, fainting, irregular or slow heartbeat, shortness of breath, unusual stomach pain, painful or prolonged erection.
 
Overdose:
Almost any medicine taking in excess doses without consultation with your doctor can cause an overdose. No overdose of Lyrica has been reported. If you suspect an overdose contact your emergency room immediately.

Missed Dose: If your doctor gave you strict instructions not to miss dose and if you missed one take the missed dose as soon as you remembered. If it is time for your next dose, skip it and continue taking you medicine regularly. Do not double the medicine. It can cause severe side effects.

Storage conditions:
Lyrica should be kept away from heat, direct light, water, moisture at a room temperature (approximately 23 degrees C). The medicine should be kept in a place unreachable for children.
